Sauti Sol crooner Savara is one of the brains behind the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) anthem dubbed “Paamoja”, a collaboration with two other renowned artistes; Tanzania’s Phina and Uganda’s Elijah Kitaka.
The anthem was created to celebrate the spirit of unity and culture across East Africa, specifically for the CHAN tournament being hosted by the three nations. Savara intentionally blended traditional rhythms from the region, including Isukuti and Chakacha from Kenya and traditional Ugandan rhythms, to create a sound that is both modern and deeply rooted in the local culture.
The song aims to energize both fans and players, highlighting the shared passion for football and the cooperative spirit across national borders. Savara has also met with the Kenyan national team, the Harambee Stars, to share the anthem and celebrate the “winning energy” it represents. This anthem is not Savara’s first venture into music for sports; he has also previously performed the Kenyan national anthem at a FIFA World Cup qualifier match.
This would be Savara’s second venture into the world of sports, as he previously performed the Kenyan national anthem at a FIFA World Cup qualifier match.
