A series of crazy tales of dead bodies dumped at River Yala have taken over Twitter, and they are just as grotesque as you would presume.
Earlier today, activist Boniface Mwangi flanked by Haki Africa’s Director, one Hass Khalid took Kenyans on an absolute rollercoaster ride detailing explicitly how bodies are dumped into said river by unidentified people, after which some of the recovered ones are piled in Yala Subcounty hospital and later buried in masses for lack of identification.
According to Mwangi, his move was informed by a tipoff from a concerned John Doe who let him in on the bizarre occurrences. “We responded to social media reports of floating bodies in River Yala. We went to Siaya County and saw 21 unidentified male bodies.We saw 2 more floating in the River. @HakiAfrica has a list of 67 victims of enforced disappearances from 2021 and 8 so far in 2022,” he tweeted.
Mwangi documented the disturbing account of how bodies are dumped into the river by, as a case in point, by a probox and double cabin, as has been reported by school-going children and bodaboda riders. One Okero, is the area’s designated body retriever. He has reportedly recovered 31 bodies since July last year and says he recovers at least five of those a month. Mwangi also shared graphic images of decomposing bodies at Yala Subcounty hospital that he says are likely to be buried in masses, as was the case on October 20 last year when 9 bodies with no identity were buried.
