Atlanta rappers Gunna and Young Thug will remain jailed on racketeering charges in their city of Atlanta after a Monday, May 23 hearing accused them of being members of a violent street gang that committed carjackings, murders and shootings.
A Fulton County judge denied Gunna, real name Sergio Kitchens, bond after he pleaded not guilty, with prosecutors asking that he remain jailed telling the judge that some state witnesses were on the receiving end of threats.
Meanwhile, a bond hearing for Young Thug, real name Jeffery Lamar Williams was postponed until next month, with prosecutors saying that his attorney should be disqualified as he also represents other people charged in the same case. Both rappers among 26 other people were accused of violating Georgia’s anti-racketeering by being members of a street gang notorious for committing violent crimes for over a decade and promoting the same in songs and social media.

The indictment is inclusive of 181 acts of violence that prosecutors say started in 2013 as part of the alleged racketeering conspiracy. Both of their attorneys have denied the allegations.
Both Gunna and Thug have had huge success as part of the new crop of rappers. Gunna is signed on to Thug’s Young Stoner Life record label.
