The “Watch me (Whip/ Nae Nae)” hitmaker Silento, alias Richard Lamar Hawk, 23, has been arrested and charged with the alleged murder of his cousin Frederick Rooks aged 34 according to the DeKalb County Police Department.
The rapper was supposedly involved in the shooting of Frederick on January 21st. Rooks’ body was found with several gunshot wounds in a residential neighborhood in Panthersville after police responded to a disturbance call from neighbors reporting gunshots.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that after several investigations, the DeKalb County Police Department collected various surveillance footage from some neighbors’ security cameras that showed several cars fleeing away from the scene and the sound of at least one gunshot.
So far, no motive has been established for the fatal shooting. However, this hasn’t been the first time the singer/rapper has been arrested. According to ABC News affiliate KABC, Hawks was charged with two counts of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon all in one week.
In one of the incidents, Richard supposedly stormed into a residence wielding a hatchet in search of his girlfriend. Earlier on in the same week, he had been charged with domestic violence towards his girlfriend after a report of a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of MacArthur Boulevard, authorities said.
Aside from his global hit ‘Watch Me Whip/ Nae Nae’, Silento has been working on new music, dropping new music in January 2020 which barely garnered 345K views, a stark contrast to the ‘Nae Nae’ release with had 1.7B views on YouTube.
