Rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, 54, was denied bail after a New York judge rejected his $50 million bond proposal on Tuesday (17.09.24).
Combs, who pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution, had sought to secure his release with a substantial bond package co-signed by his family.
The proposal, submitted by Diddy’s lawyers Marc Agnfilo and Teny R. Geragos, included a $50 million bond backed by equity in Combs’ Miami home and his mother’s property. His mother Janice Combs, sister Keisha Combs, and three sons, who had surrendered their passports following a raid on his homes in March, supported the bond. The rapper’s team argued that limiting his travel to Florida, New York, and New Jersey would ensure his compliance with court orders.
In a letter obtained by E! News, his lawyers emphasized Diddy’s commitment to proving his innocence in court. They pointed out that when Combs became aware of the impending charges, he voluntarily travelled to New York to cooperate with authorities, demonstrating that he was neither a flight risk nor a threat to the community.
However, US Attorney Damian Williams opposed the bail request, arguing that Combs posed a flight risk and a danger to the community. Williams also highlighted the rapper’s history of substance abuse and anger management issues, which he claimed could not be adequately controlled through bail conditions. Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky sided with the prosecution and denied the bail request.
Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, remains in custody as he awaits his next court hearing on 25 September, where he plans to fight the allegations.
