NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 14 – The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country between September 15 and 21, as Kenya steps up preparations ahead of the October–December (OND) 2026 rainfall season.
According to the weekly rainfall forecast released by KMSA on Monday, rainfall is expected in parts of more than 20 counties during the period.
The counties include Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kisii, Kisumu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nandi, Nyamira, Siaya, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Wajir and West Pokot, among other areas.
KMSA said the forecast forms part of ongoing efforts to provide timely weather information to support preparedness, early warning and early action ahead of the OND rainfall season.
The weather agency said sunny intervals are also expected in parts of Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana and Wajir during the forecast period.
KMSA urged Kenyans to use available weather information to plan ahead and take precautionary measures to protect lives, property and livelihoods from weather-related hazards.
“As we prepare for the OND season, the window for preparedness is now,” the agency said.
It emphasised the importance of acting on weather forecasts before hazards occur, noting that early warning should translate into early action.
The OND season is traditionally an important rainfall period for Kenya, with the weather outlook informing planning in sectors including agriculture, water, disaster management, transport and public health.
KMSA continues to issue regular forecasts and advisories to support national and county-level preparedness as the country approaches the 2026 OND rainfall season.
