Poland-Based Kenyan Singer Becky Sangolo Follows Up Swahili Charm Of “Pata Potea” With New Release

There is something quietly powerful about a song that lets you grieve something and celebrate at the same time. That is exactly what Becky Sangolo does in her latest single Return to Sender.

Cowritten by Becky, Kenyan guitarist and producer Polycarp Otieno (Fancy Fingers), and Polish collaborator Peter Szczepanik, the song tells the story of two people who almost had it all and did not make it, not because the connection was not real but because timing, pride, or fear arrived before either of them could get out of the way.

The song is a smooth Kompa style infused confession of love lost and self-worth found. With a bittersweet tone and smooth guitar riffs telling a story of two who almost had it all – but timing, pride or fear got in the way.

It celebrates the freedom of walking away – even if the connection was real. The lyrics recognise the great memories shared but through a lens of acknowledgement and not going backwards. “I’ve go to admit that we could have been something amazing.” They reflect the classic “what could’ve been story” but with a twist of growth and closure.

The Voice of Poland finalist has spent the last few years proving that Kenyan music travels. The single is part of a building run toward her debut full length album, due in August 2026. The album promises more storytelling, more harmonies, and the kind of rawness her listeners have been asking for since Concrete Flower landed in 2025.

Formerly of the girl group Band BeCa, Sangolo is now based in Poland and recording with Polish and Kenyan collaborators.
