NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 9 — Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, has vowed support for the Deputy President’s campaign against misuse of drugs and alcohol in the Mt. Kenya region.
Speaking at PCEA Kabiruini during the retirement service of Rev. Peter Mwikumi, Dorcas revealed that some “cartels” had retaliated after using the proceeds from the sale of illegal alcohol to assassinate young men in the area.
“I know the work we are doing, the drug barons and those who sell alcohol are fighting back, but you will not succeed against us, because the work we are doing is the work of God and it will be done,” she said.
“We are going to save the boychild and save our country and that is why we are here. We are going to fight what must be fought.”
She asserted that she and DP Gachagua will not give up on their mission to save the boychild.
Pastor Dorcas said she will support the Deputy President in prayers in achieving the objective to resolve the challenge of drug abuse.
“He is a good leader, and he is going to lead, because we are on our knees. They said he will not get there; he is there by the grace of God. And by the power of God, he will remain there and we are going to pray for him. That is a message coming from his wife,” she said.
Fire 100 chiefs
The Second Lady spoke even as DP Gachagua promised to sack 100 chiefs by December 31 over what he termed as laxity in combating the sale of illicit brews.
“I don’t want to sack chiefs but I want before Christmas in the whole country to sack about 100 chiefs so that they can be an example to others who are not working,” Gachagua said while attending a church service in Rift Valley on Sunday.
“I love chiefs but I love the young people more,” he said.
In Kenya, especially in the Mt. Kenya region and the Rift Valley, Gachagua has been at the forefront of the fight against illegal brew.
Gachagua had previously ordered the police, the chiefs, and their deputies to defeat drug lords within their jurisdictions or face the sack.
