Oprah Winfrey was recently hospitalized due to severe stomach issues, according to her close friend Gayle King.

King shared the news on CBS Mornings, describing the incident as a “very serious thing.”

The 70-year-old media mogul, who had appeared noticeably slimmer in recent public appearances, had previously opened up about her weight-loss journey in a People magazine cover story. She revealed that she had been using weight-loss treatments, including Ozempic, which has seen a surge in popularity in Hollywood and beyond.

However, Winfrey’s recent hospitalization was unrelated to her weight-loss treatments. King explained that Winfrey had been suffering from a severe case of stomach flu, which led to dehydration and the need for intravenous fluids. “She had some kind of stomach thing – stomach flu – where stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic,” King said. “But needless to say, she ended up in the hospital – dehydration; she had an IV. So it was a very serious thing. She will be okay. I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.”

Following King’s revelation, Oprah Daily’s Instagram account released a statement noting that Winfrey had intended to appear on CBS Mornings to announce her latest Oprah Book Club selection. However, due to her illness over the weekend, Gayle King stepped in to make the announcement on her behalf.

The statement reassured fans that Winfrey is now recuperating after receiving medical care and IV fluids for dehydration. “We are happy to share that after receiving an IV due to dehydration at her doctor’s recommendation, Oprah is feeling much better. She is resting and feeling better every day. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
