The soundtrack for Bob Marley: One Love (Music Inspired by the Film) claimed the coveted Best Reggae Album award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.
Released in February 2024 by Island Records, the 10-track project features contemporary renditions of some of Marley’s most beloved songs, including Natural Mystic, Exodus, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds, One Love, Redemption Song, and Is This Love.
Among the artists who lent their voices to this tribute album are Marley’s grandson Skip Marley, Grammy-winning Canadian R&B artist Daniel Caesar, country star Kacey Musgraves, Nigerian sensation Wizkid, singer-songwriter Jesse Reyez, and soul artist Leon Bridges. Nigerian artist Bloody Civilian also contributed to the project, adding a modern touch to Marley’s timeless sound.
The album triumphed over a strong lineup of nominees in the Best Reggae Album category, which included Evolution by The Wailers, Never Gets Late Here by Shenseea, Take it Easy by Collie Buddz, and Party with Me by Vybz Kartel.
While Bob Marley never won a competitive Grammy during his lifetime, his legacy has been honoured posthumously through various Grammy wins and recognitions. In 2001, he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. His influence was further cemented with multiple posthumous wins, including Best Reggae Album awards for compilation projects featuring his timeless music.
The film Bob Marley: One Love explores the life and legacy of the Jamaican reggae icon, focusing on his rise to international stardom and his role in promoting peace through music.
