The just concluded Kenyan general elections will go down the history books as one of the most hotly contested polls in history.
With a few select politicians managing to snag the coveted seats, others have conceded defeat, retreated to their old careers and kept it moving. Some, in the same vein, have had people talking with how utterly promptly they moved past their defeat and have Kenyans talking and in owe.
Polycarp Igathe
The bank executive won the hearts of many with his unusual campaign tactics. From bartending and waiting in clubs, to cleaning toilets to assisting vegetable vendors at work, he pulled every possible stop to win the hearts of people. Unfortunately for Igathe, it did not quit work out as John Sakaja, his main rival in the enviable gubernatorial seat, ended up winning the elections.
Reports hitherto indicate that Igathe is bound to go back to the corporate world.
On the bright side, it’s all love between Igathe and Sakaja. The two were recently photographed all smiles over a beverage, a tell tale sign there is no bad blood between them.
William Kabogo
The former Kiambu governor is synonymous with flaunting his affluence and suing it as his lick back whenever attacks are hurled his way. The infamous politician was in the running for the Kiambu county gubernatorial seat which he lost. Merely hours after losing, he posted himself up on his social media, looking unfazed, with a beer and with a panoramic view in the background. His competitor Moses Kuria has also vowed to resume the private sector after losing out on the same seat.
He was seemingly following the presidential results announcement.
Jaguar (Charles Njagua)
The reserved singer-turned-politician was vying for the Starehe MP seat, which he held in the now-ending term. After failing to snag the seat, the prolific musician has gone back to his first love – music. His new song, his first in years, came out a few days ago and will perhaps mark his return to the Kenyan music scene.
Jahmby Koikai
She was one of the several Kenyan showbiz personalities running for political seats. Via an independent candidate ticket, Jahmby was vying for the Dagoretti South parliamentary seat, which she lost to incumbent John Kiarie. Not one to take loss lying down, she is moving on to what she is best known for – playing reggae concerts across the country.
Kiraitu Murungi
The incumbent Meru governor was campaigning in bid to retain his seat, but ended up losing out to independent candidate Kawira Mwangaza. A day after losing the election, Murungi would land a new gig as a member of the Kenya Law Reform Commission.
