Octopizzo has been known for his lyricism and in his 5th studio album dubbed ‘Jungle Fever’, he offers listeners a cohesive project that will change how Kenyans view rap and hip hop.
The highly anticipated album ‘Jungle Fever’ dropped today (20.11.2020) on all streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer and Audiomack. The talented rap star who was born in Kibera, has used music to empower others an offer messages that uplift. Much of the material of his previous releases spoke on poverty and issues affecting the youth, however the new project sees Octopizzo champion culture and the endearing African spirit. A risk-taker not shy of experimentation, his sound is evolving and so is his artistry.
‘Jungle Fever’ comes only 2 years after the 2018 release ‘Next Year’ and is a new direction for the award-winning rapper. A display of a mature sound, Octo’s interests and love for music are well articulated in this afro-rap rhumba fusion project. The 15-track album features a myriad of artists including the legendary Suzanna Owiyo on ‘Lela’, MAYA on the track ‘Swaga za Wapi’ and ‘Zambe’. Surprise collaborations include the longtime friend Blinky Bill and Gengetone breakout star Zzero Sufuri. Idd Aziz also features on the album, lending his spectacular vocals to three tracks. Instrumentalist Owino Kitoto also features on 49-minute long album.
Taking to Twitter, he spoke about project saying ” With this album, I seek to foster a society that values music both as part of universal education, universal language and as an essential expression of the human experience and spirit brought to life by CULTURE.”

The album is timeless, and is a mash-up of old and new creating a symphony of sound that all ages can understand and appreciate. With the drop of the project, Octo has also gifted fans the third video from ‘Jungle Fever’ album dubbed ‘Good Morning Africa’ a collaboration with the talented vocalist Idd Aziz.

The album comes days after the ‘Noma Ni’ lyrist shared that he had been shortlisted for Grammy Consideration by the Recording Academy. Octo as he is commonly referred to by his fans, is the first East African rapper to receive such a high honor. As previous reported on The Sauce, Don Papichullo is up for consideration in 3 major categories, the second time he has been picked up for consideration by the Recording Academy.
‘Jungle Fever’ proves that more Kenyan acts can use culture as a basis for their commercial music. With many arguing what is the ultimate Kenyan sound, it is clear that our culture should heavily influence the music scene no matter the genre.
