NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 29 — The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has reviewed its operating hours in a bid to clear a backlog of driving licenses and new-generation reflective number plates.
The revised working hours announced on Friday will unlock an additional one-and-a-half hour on weekdays.
“As part of our service improvement, the authority has adjusted its operating hours. In this regard, all NTSA Banking Halls and offices will operate, Monday to Friday, from 7.30am to 6.00pm,” NTSA stated in a notification published on X.
NTSA further stated its offices will remain open to the public on Saturday, September 30 and Saturday, October 7, from 8.00 am to 4.00pm to facilitate number plate collection.
“We humbly request the motor vehicles owners who have received SMS notifications on collection of reflective number plates to visit the centers they identified during their application process,” the agency stated.
The announcement came a week after Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen conducted impromptu visits to NTSA offices where he assessed the agency’s operations amid public complaints over delays in service delivery.
The CS directed the agency to clear the backlog of driving licenses and the digital number plates within two weeks.
“To quickly resolve this issue, I will personally supervise the processing, printing and delivery of Driving Licenses, logbooks and digital number plates, starting today to ensure Kenyans get better services and value for money,” Murkomen declared on September 22.
Murkomen noted with concern that the agency’s stores retained number plates that had long been printed as frustrated owners made multiple visits to collect them from regional centres in vain.
