Nigerian Star CKay On Performances, Love For Sauti Sol And New Album

He has reigned the airwaves with big hits like Emiliana and Love Nwantiti and is part of the new generation of stars born of the Afrobeats global explosion.

Ahead of his Blankets & Wine performance last month, The Sauce caught up with the singer who let us in on what he is hitherto up to. “I would attribute the success I have encountered as regards my high streaming numbers to the fact that my music comes from the heart. I love that it resonates with the people,” He opined.

He is currently promoting his new album, Sad Romance, and promises another album is in the pipeline, as well as features with artistes whose identity he asked to leave in obscurity. He adds: “I, nonetheless, have to say that I love Sauti Sol. I have yet to meet them but working with them would be pretty cool.”

CKay describes his sound as ‘Emo-Afrobeats’ and is buoyant that the emotions he incorporates in his music is what sets him apart from the rest of the pack. On his Blankets & Wine headline performance, the crooner adds: “My music is tailored for festivals, so this performance is just my kind. The music comes out in its full essence in a festival setting.”
