Nicki Minaj and female rap duo City Girls have made amends after Minaj said that she was not going to work with them, over past jabs the two have tried at her.
In a radio interview, the HipHop legend was asked if she had any plans of working with the duo, to which she asserted that she would not. Minaj admitted she once wanted to hop on one of their records, but changed her mind after they seemed to throw subliminals her way. Resurfaced hateful tweets and video footage of the girls’ ill-fated feelings towards Minaj went in circulation a few years ago, prompting the Anaconda rapper to look at them differently.
She would go on to explain: “What I will say is that, a few years ago I saw a video of them and I asked someone on their team at the time about them. I was thinking about jumping on a record, one of their records that was out at the time. And then, social media happened,” she stated.
Giving the analogy of seeking to go to dinner with someone, she said: “If I had plans beforehand to go to dinner with you then find out you said awful things about me, I will end up not going to dinner with you anymore, because I know that I like you but you don’t really like me.” Concluding, she posed: “Why would I work with someone who doesn’t like me?”
Hours after the interview, Minaj tweeted that she had a conversation with the two, which they acknowledged by quote-tweeting her and thanking her.
The Pills and Potion rap heavyweight further admitted she turned down a request to feature on rapper Gunna’s P Power, which Drake ultimately featured on, owing to the song’s explicit nature. Her then pregnancy and new mom mindspace, she says, led to her wanting to do things differently musically speaking. “I knew that in order to get on a track like that, I would have to be explicit. In my opinion, I would have to kill it and be explicit and talk that real talk. And I wasn’t ready. I just wasn’t there.”
