Netflix is bringing Kenyan storytelling to the global stage with the highly anticipated drama series Mo-Faya.
The celebrated Reuben Odanga created and directed the seven-part series, which will debut on December 20, 2024.
Blending drama with the intrigue of a telenovela, Mo-Faya paints a vivid picture of life in Nairobi while offering rare glimpses into the lush landscapes of Western Kenya—regions seldom showcased in Kenyan cinema.
The story follows Zawadie, a young woman whose life takes an unexpected turn after uncovering shocking family secrets. Determined to start anew, she embarks on a journey with her boyfriend, Brian. However, Brian’s hidden double life plunges her into a treacherous world of secrets, crime, and deception.
Mo-Faya boasts a dynamic and predominantly youthful cast, including Lorna Lemi (Nairobby), Brahim Ouma (Pepeta), and rising stars Tobit Tom and Mathew Ngugi. The ensemble is further enriched by seasoned talents such as Alex Mwakideu (Nafsi), Blessing Lung’aho (Country Queen), Basil Mungai (Kina), Tessy Njine (Selina), and renowned media personality Cate Rira.
This marks a milestone for Reuben Odanga, whose reputation precedes him as the mastermind behind the award-winning telenovela Selina. Over its five-season run, Selina won a Kalasha Award and captured audiences across Kenya. Following the success of his debut feature film Nafsi, which premiered on Netflix in 2022, Odanga is now making his mark with his first Netflix original series.
“Mo-Faya is raw and grounded in realism. It reflects who we are as a society, beyond the polished facades of social media,” Odanga shares. “The show highlights the critical role of present and responsible parenting in raising well-rounded individuals who will shape our future.”
Produced by Multan Production, the series is backed by executive producers Jacqueline Musyoka and Reuben Odanga, with Margaret Wanjiru Muriithi taking on the producer role. The writing credits go to Edijoh Mwaniki (Lost in Time), while Okada Media handles the series’ distribution.
