NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 1 – Kenya Lionesses head coach Dennis Mwanja is eyeing qualification to the World Rugby Sevens Series as the team kicks off the Challenger Series in South Africa this weekend.

Mwanja says the team has shown hunger and desire, enough for them to battle for a place in the queens’ table of global women’s rugby.

For the first tournament, Kenya is drawn in Pool B with Poland and Samoa.

Speaking to Telecomasia.net, Mwanja is confident that the team has ability to earn good results from these first two rounds.

“It has been our ambition every year to try and qualify for the World Series and I believe we can do it this time. We have a very good squad and have had ample time to train and prepare. The motivation and belief is there and these are the two ingredients I believe are key for us to progress. The men definitely do inspire us and we want to pick from their motivation and make our own history,” Mwanja said ahead of the firs round of matches.

A top four finish in the overall standings of the Challenger Series will see the team advance to the play-off tournament, where the winners qualify for the series. Mwanja’s primary target at the moment, is to make the top four.
