BBC recently released a series of videos dubbed “Sugar” documenting the new sponsor culture fuelled by rates of poverty. The video reveals social media has also been central to the emerging culture and has aided women in finding their perfect ‘sugar daddy’ or ‘blessor’. With the emergence of socialites, the sponsor culture has grown. Now funding university students lavish lifestyles and changing strongly held beliefs on sex, relationships, and marriage, sponsor culture has fundamentally changed Kenya’s society.
