Multi-instrumentalist and singer Simon Javan Okelo is set to play the Alliance Francaise as he continues the promo run for his ‘Madaraka Vibes’ album tour.
The Madaraka Festival CEO, who has been in the country to promote the new body of work, has already played shows in Kisumu and at the Geco Cafe in Nairobi. He now has his eyes fixed on yet another stop at the renowned CBD-based venue on Friday, August 16.
Backed by his One Vibe Band, Okelo’s show at the venue is slated to go down between 6pm and 9pm and will also feature surprise acts among them Grammy considered rapper Gabiro Mtu Necessary – who also hails from Okelo’s backyard of Kisumu.
Other singers who will take the Garden Stage/Terrace will include Apesi, Larry Dwayne, Shanariha Evans, Shamir Tadeiya, Shari Afrika and ItsYaba.
The musician released the 9-track LP a little over 3 weeks ago. It features among other tracks, ‘Mombasa and ‘Onge Ringo.’ He sings mostly in Swahili, English and his native Dholuo. Collaborators include Shamir Tadeiya, Shanariha Evans and Philip Mbinji.

Meanwhile, he is bracing up for the first Kenyan edition of Madaraka Festival due for a December date. The show’s US tour run was cancelled a few months ago but Okelo is hellbent on making this Kenyan stop worth the while.
