NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 30 – Suspected Mulot SIM swap syndicate leader David Mutai alias Hillary Langat Matindwet was on Friday morning arrested in Kericho Town.
A statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations says the suspect was arrested outside a local bank following a tip-off from members of the public.
“His attempt to flee was immediately thwarted by the youthful young men of athletic height who went after him in long strides, bringing him down with a heavy thud after a few metres,” read a tweet on the DCI page.
He was taken to the local DCI offices ahead of planned movement to Nairobi and later prosecution.
On Wednesday, detectives unmasked a man whom they alleged to be involved in the mobile money transfer fraud in Bomet and Narok counties.
He is also alleged to have siphoned 941,000 Shillings from a bank account belonging to a Member of Parliament who had traveled out of the country between December 2 and 3 this year.
