NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 13 – Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya is set to face assault charges after slapping a Member of County Assembly at a funeral in Kakamega.
Salasya was freed on a Sh50,00 cash bail pending his arraignment on Tuesday.
His two bodyguards were arrested and disarmed after shooting in the air during the drama at a funeral.
The lawmaker will further be charged with creating a disturbance.
During the incident, Malaha/Isongo Ward MCA Peter Walunya Indimuli had invited Salasya to the podium and requested him to observe the family decorum in his speech.
The ward representative told police the Mumias East MP arrogantly shouted him down which immediately erupted unrest amongst the mourners.
In the viral video, few minutes the first time lawmaker took the podium he is seen asking the MCA to sit down and within second he moved to attack the ward representative.
Police officers from Shianda police station intervened and restored calmness in the funeral.
The lawmaker has been on the spotlight over various incidences and last year where he was arrested a number of times.
