Since the pandemic set in and for most of its aftermath, a hiatus befell the music industry.
Some artistes have deferred premiering their new music till the world comes out of lockdown. And with a semblance of our new normal in 2022, fans are waiting with bated breath for fresh albums.
Nicki Minaj
The rap powerhouse just dropped a new track, Do We Have A Problem, featuring Lil Baby. It is the first taste off her upcoming 5th studio album. This will be the follow-up to Queen, her 2018 album, and she has already hinted at it dropping anytime soon. Before today’s release, the Queen has kept fans captivated with collaborations with artistes like Jesy Nelson, NBA Youngboy and Doja Cat. She also rereleased her 2009 album last year, complete with three new tracks. It peaked #2 on the Billboard 200-the biggest peak for a rereleased in history.
Much anticipated on the wait list are Kendrick Lamar, Dr Dre, Eminem, and Cardi B just to name a few.
Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar gained all fanfare with his 2017 block buster ‘DAMN’ and since then nothing significant can be told of his music. He is set to perform at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J. Blige on Valentine’s Day. He has severally teased for the past year that he has new music on the cards. Kendrick could be back to the 2022 music charts, so watch out for an album.

Cardi B
Cardi B is still cruising the wave of her Grammy-nominated 2018 album, ‘Invasion of Privacy’. Although Cardi B has been busy with parenting now that she is a mother of two, fans can’t wait for new material from her. The entertainer vowed to release a new album in 2022 saying that it takes her a long time to complete a body work. The ‘Bodak Yellow’ hitmaker plans to host a series of album releases parties, which she couldn’t do with the coronavirus restrictions.

Lil Uzi
All signs show that Lil Uzi has something in the offing. Since 2020, he has been working on the track lists for an album that could be named the Pink Tape or Delta Tape. In any case, that is now long overdue. He hinted at this in his Instagram profile and the only time he came close to announcing it being when subtly brought it up during an Instagram Live session where he had dyed his hair pink. Lil Uzi continues to suggest an album and this year could be its year.
Ye
Kanye West or Ye is known for consistency in producing music and his genius in curating. He released his Grammy nominated album titled ‘Donda’ in August 2021 and followed this up with a deluxe version which features Kenyan -born artist KayCyy. According to Ye via his Instagram, fans can expect ‘Donda 2’ produced by Future on February 22nd 2022.

Pusha T
To date, just as any other artist, Pusha is still judged by his most recent work, in this case the 2018 album DayTona. Pusha T decamped GOOD Music label and now observers wait to see the tangent his music takes. Will it be influenced by the styles in his former recording house or could he create his own style? It’s a wait and see, but Pusha T must drop something this time.
Dr. Dre
Like a godfather, Dre wears all hats there has been to wear in the industry. In a career spanning close to four decades, he has seen music offshoots grow under his shadow, acted in movies, established his name in the music business as a record producer and executive. He is expected to release an album, ‘Casablanco’, a work he is to feature Marsha Ambrosius.
Other artists who are expected to release albums this year include; Nas, Drake, Frank Ocean, Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Future, Megan Thee Stallion.
