Michael Jackson’s dirty sock has been sold for a whooping Ksh 1.4M.
According to reports from a French auction house, the single glittering sock worn by the legendary entertainer during a 1997 concert in France was sold at an auction for more than $8,000.
The iconic sock, discovered by a technician near the pop superstar’s dressing room following his performance in Nîmes during his HIStory World Tour, was initially left behind after the show.
Aurore Illy, the auctioneer in charge, explained to AFP that this sock was part of the signature attire Jackson wore during his performances white athletic socks adorned with rhinestones that sparkled under the lights.
Now showing signs of age, the off-white sock is stained, and the rhinestones have yellowed with time. Despite these signs of wear, it remains a highly coveted piece of memorabilia for devoted fans.It was originally valued at between 3,000 and 4,000 euros ($3,400 – $4,500).
In 2009, a Macau gaming resort paid a jaw-dropping $350,000 for one of Jackson’s famous rhinestone gloves, the very same one he wore when performing the legendary “moonwalk” for the first time in 1983. Additionally, a hat he wore during that same era sold for over $80,000 at a Paris auction in 2023.
