Kenyan singer Maya Amolo brings clarity and heart with “Sweetest Time” — her first release of 2025.
The track is a lush, Afro-R&B gem that captures the intoxicating rush of new love in all its dreamy, dizzying glory.
Teaming up with fellow Kenyan artist Ywaya Tajiri, Maya delivers a tender duet that feels like a slow dance under city lights. Their voices intertwine effortlessly, melting into each other with a chemistry that’s both magnetic and soothing. Longtime collaborator La Soulchyld helms the production, infusing the track with warmth, sensuality, and the signature smoothness that’s become synonymous with Maya’s sound.
“‘Sweetest Time’ is about the tension and beauty of a connection that’s new, uncertain, but completely intoxicating,” Maya explains. “It’s that moment when time stands still and nothing else matters.”
Born and raised in Nairobi, Maya Amolo has carved out a distinctive space in the global alt-R&B scene. Her 2020 debut EP Leave Me At The Pregame introduced her as a voice of vulnerability and healing, while her acclaimed 2022 album Asali solidified her as one of East Africa’s most captivating musical storytellers.
Her star has continued to rise with nods from NPR, OkayAfrica, The Native Mag, and Harmattan Rain. In 2022, she made history as the first-ever Spotify Africa Fresh Finds artist. By 2023, her artistry earned her a spot at the inaugural Tantalizers Sessions — a Spotify and COLORSxSTUDIOS writing camp for top African talent — and later that year, Apple Music named her East Africa’s Up Next artist.
