A South African man captured chugging a bottle-ful of Jagermeister in a viral video has reportedly died.
The unnamed man downed the bottle in under two minutes and is said to have been part of a binge drinking competition with his peers. According to Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, the man is believed to be aged around 25-30 years.
In the video that has since taken the web by storm, the man is seen surrounded by people who cheer him on as he gulps down the bottle. The incident occured at a local liquor station where patrons participated in their quest to win R200 (Sh 1400).
“The winner who could consume the entire bottle of Jägermeister within a specified time, would get R200 cash. One of them immediately collapsed thereafter and was taken to the local clinic, where he was certified dead,” Mojapelo told a South African media outlet.
Jagermeister is a drink of German descent that bears an alcohol content of 35 per cent.
