NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 22 — UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has accused ousted Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni of destabilizing ongoing national dialogue at Bomas.
In comments following an altercation between Kioni and UDA Vice Chairperson Omar Hassan, Malala termed the fracas as unnecessary.
“We have put our best leaders for these talks because we value the ongoing talks,” he said during a public meeting in Narok on Friday after opening county party offices.
“You Kioni must respect the Vice Chairperson of UDA party,” Malala said.
He termed Kioni’s actions at Bomas as disrespectful .
“If you have ideas, challenge us with ideas intellectually,give us your ideologies,” said Malala.
Kioni and Hassan reportedly crashed at the Bomas of Kenya on Thursday as the National Dialogue Committee co-led by Kalonzo Musyoka and Kimani Ichung’wa convened in preparation for Friday’s session when the panel was set to receive public memoranda.
The Secretary General of the ruling party dismissed reports of simmering tension within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition as propaganda by a section of the press.
“We as Kenya Kwanza are united to deliver promises made to Kenyans,” he said even as he called on constituent parties to consolidate under UDA.
Malala endorsed the clamor to review salaries of the Members of County Assembly saying they are overwhelmed by many demands of their constituents.
“That is a discussion that [we] cannot run away [from]. I know the problems they go through everyday,” he said.
Malala commended Governor Patrick Ntutu for setting aside Sh100 million for each ward within Narok county saying MCAs could now deliver key pledges to the electorate.
Speaking at the event Ntutu restated his administration’s commitment to support President William Ruto’s transformation agenda.
“I have requested the president to allow us to have an international airport in Narok County. This will create job opportunities to youth in Narok,” he said.
He dismissed the opposition’s clamor over high cost of food as insincere.
“Those who are saying the government must lower the price of maize and wheat flour should start by lowering the price of fish,” Ntutu said.
“Our president understands there’s a high cost of fuel. Let us give him time to find a lasting solution. As the Kenya kwanza government we request the people of Kenya to be a little patient,” he added.
Ntutu urged Kenyans to bear with high cost of fuel “We request the wananchi to be patient with the Kenya kwanza government,”,he said.
Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno urged the Narok county people to join the UDA party and work with the government to ensure developments.
“As the leaders we understand, there is a high cost of living in this country. We request the president to allow the members of parliament to pass a law that will arrest those who stole the public funds and hid it to foreign countries,” he said
“Those who are challenging the president because of the high cost of living in Kenya, should first return the money they stole in this country,” Ng’eno quipped.
Rebecca Tonkei, MP Narok, termed the opening of the UDA party office in Narok County as timely.
