It’s World Radio Day and renowned radio personality Maina Kageni, has taken to social media to pay tribute to his radio heroes.
Celebrated annually on February 13th, World Radio Day acknowledges the enduring significance of radio as a medium for communication, entertainment, and information dissemination.
In an Instagram post marking this pivotal day, Maina Kageni, known for his long-standing role as a breakfast show host, shared a collage featuring twelve distinguished radio personalities from Kenya. He affectionately labeled them the “Greatest of All Time” (GOATS), recognizing their immense contributions to the radio industry.
Among the esteemed figures highlighted in Kageni’s tribute are Leonard ‘Mambo’ Mbotela, a legendary icon in Kenyan radio, and Caroline Mutoko, a former radio queen known for her impactful presence on the airwaves. The late Sean Cardovillis, a prominent sports journalist, was also honored for his remarkable career in broadcasting.
Phil Mathews, recognized as the first presenter on Capital FM Kenya, and Munene Nyaga, a veteran broadcaster, were included in the illustrious lineup. Additionally, Kageni acknowledged his co-host Daniel Ndambuki, popularly known as Churchill, for their dynamic partnership on the airwaves.
The tribute further extended to influential figures such as Zain Verjee, a former CNN journalist, and Edward Kwach, whose contributions have left a lasting impact on Kenyan radio. Bernard Otieno, John Wilkins, Bob Kioko, and Robert Warobi were also featured, representing a diverse spectrum of talent within the radio landscape.
Through his homage to these radio luminaries, Maina Kageni pays homage to the enduring legacy of this timeless medium and the individuals who have shaped its evolution in Kenya and beyond.
