Lupita Nyong’o Launches Podcast Celebrating African Voices

Oscar-winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o is venturing into a new realm of storytelling with the launch of her upcoming podcast, Mind Your Own.

The 10-part series promises to dive deep into the personal stories of Africans in the diaspora, offering a unique exploration of identity and culture.

Announcing the project alongside the release of its official trailer, Nyong’o’s podcast will transport listeners to cities such as Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, Toronto, and Kampala.

In the trailer, Nyong’o reveals that Mind Your Own was born out of a deep yearning to hear stories that resonated with her experience. She wanted to move beyond the headlines about Africans and give people a chance to tell their own “nuanced, intimate stories.” With a sense of purpose, she adds, “I want to help share them—and tell a few of my own.” The trailer ends on a powerful note: “We are going home.”

For Nyong’o, the project is personal. Born in Mexico, raised in Kenya, and having spent the last two decades in the U.S., she is intimately familiar with the complexities of being part of the African diaspora. This lived experience fuels her drive to authentically represent the African journey and to create a platform where these stories can be shared openly.

Mind Your Own will debut on September 19 with two episodes, available on all major podcast platforms. New episodes will drop weekly, inviting listeners on a journey into the heart of the African diaspora—one story at a time.
