Beloved father, brother, mentor and friend to many Mohammed Juma Njuguna has died.
The legendary sports reporter who was known for his role in highlighting Kenya’s growing sports scene as well as the prominent sports figures, passed away earlier today (8.06.2019) at Nairobi Hospital. According to a report by Daily Nation, the highly-acclaimed sports journalist has had a long battle with illness, to which he eventually succumb.
His last position was as a content creator at Citizen Radio, having had over 40 years experience in media as a presenter and eventually transitioning into content creation and show development.
Daily Nation reported Juma was known for “his prowess in Kiswahili commentary, which also saw him awarded with a Head of State Commendation by retired President Mwai Kibaki on March 10, 2010, especially during his time at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and Citizen Radio.”
Mohammed also worked at the Kenya Broadcast Commission before eventually moving to the Royal Media Services in 1999. As news of his death spread through social media, members of the press and fans alike have gone online to condole the family and celebrate the public figure whose football commentary brought joy to many.
Director of Strategy and Innovation at Royal Media Services Linus Kaikai took to Twitter to celebrate the media persona.

Media regulatory body Media Council of Kenya also shared a special message to those affected by the sportscaster’s death. They wrote, ” the media sector has lost a long serving and distinguished member.”

Local radio personality Carol Radul also shared a heartfelt message on Instagram upon hearing the sad news. She wrote, ” Our paths crossed on so many occasions. A friend. A mentor. A radio #legend”
