Chrome, Kenya’s leading mainstream spirits brand has announced Rigo Diaz from Lang’ata Estate as the winner of its highly competitive nationwide graffiti talent search.
Diaz emerged victorious over fierce competition from runner-up Ole Tipat, impressing both judges and the public with his bold, urban-inspired designs. Tipat, from Kajiado, also captivated audiences with his unique artistic vision, blending Maasai heritage with themes of nature and urban culture. Diaz’s victory now sets him on the path to design Chrome’s iconic matatus (nganyas) as part of the brand’s #HonourTheStreets campaign.

Graffiti, a core element of Kenya’s vibrant street culture, was the central focus of Chrome’s talent search. The competition aimed to showcase and elevate local artistic talent while celebrating the energy and creativity that flows through Kenya’s urban neighborhoods. “Street art is the heartbeat of urban life in Kenya,” said Lilian Mbugua, Brand Manager for Chrome Trademark. “This campaign emphasizes the vital role of street culture in giving voice to our youth and aligns perfectly with our commitment to building brands that resonate with Kenya’s dynamic, young urban demographic.”
Rigo Diaz’s design, reflecting the resilience and spirit of Nairobi’s streets, captured the public’s imagination, garnering 6,528 votes across Facebook and Instagram, and demonstrating strong engagement with Kenya’s urban youth. Runner-up Ole Tipat, inspired by Maasai heritage and modern street art, symbolized the fusion of tradition and contemporary urban life, earning 5,878 votes for his culturally rich designs.
Other notable finalists included Wama Gafrika from Ngong, whose striking geometric designs combined natural and urban elements, Blessing Eboya from Kisumu, whose tribute to Lake Victoria reflected the vibrant energy of his hometown, and Phunk Bantu from Dandora, whose raw, gritty style illustrated the challenges and triumphs of his neighbourhood.
