KOT’s Excitement Rather Shortlived As Unga Prices Have Not Been Lowered Despite Earlier Reports

The prices of maize flour will not fall to Sh 100 as earlier reported, as the Ministry of Agriculture did not loop in millers before making the announcement to the general public.

Leaked documents indicated that the Ministry of Agriculture was to establish a month-long subsidy programme that would have seen the recommended retail price for a 2kg packet of maize flour fall to Sh 100 from the current Sh 210 while that of a 1kg packet would have fallen to Sh 52. The government would have in turn compensated millers for the newly-employed subsidies.

Turns out no agreement was arrived upon when the announcement was made, but negotiations on the same are still underway.

The high cost of living has had Kenyans livid and expressing disappointment with the government.

The excitement was rather shortlived to say the least and KOT are not here not here for
