Deputy president William Ruto is on the receiving end of criticism after his interview with Joe Ageyo.
The president hopeful and head of the Kenya Kwanza coalition was the guest on the political journalist’s show on NTV, when his remarks that quoted what turned out to be a nonexistent Bible verse caught the attention of many a viewer, resulting in disparaging comments towards the country’s deputy, both from his political opponents and general social media users.
During the heated interview, Ruto uttered: “In Mathew 17: 29, when the disciples of Jesus Christ were following Him, they asked Him; ‘we have left our families, we have left our businesses. We used to be fishermen, we have come to follow you, what is in it for us?”
The above Bible verse is nonexistent. The book of Mathew 17 ends in chapter 27 and not 29 as he stated. Turns out the actual verse he was alluding to is Mathew 19:27. To quote it verbatim, the verse says: “Peter answered Him, “We have left everything to follow you. What then will be there be for Us.”
The inaccuracy of his quote has placed him at the epicenter of major flack, especially given that he is a self-professed God-fearing man.
