King Kaka is doing his bit to help young women with his most recent initiative ‘Bank On Me.’
32-year-old Kennedy Ombima just announced that he has begun the Menstrual Walk 2019. The long walk will see Ombima walk from Kenya’s capital Nairobi to Nakuru, covering more than 100 kilometers on foot. The Kaka Empire CEO hopes to bring awareness to period poverty that affects young women and girls within Kenya.

Kaka has urged anyone interested in participating in the sanitary bank campaign to donate to the initiative which hopes to reach the target amount of 75 million. The program is set to keep at least 100,000 girls in school if it reaches the goal amount. Research indicates 1 out of 3 girls miss 4 to 5 days of school every month due to a lack of menstrual hygiene products. According to the Bank on Me website, 88% of girls in remote areas have no access to menstrual hygiene products such as sanitary towels, affecting their school attendance ultimately resulting in a poor academic performance for these young girls. The program hopes to see fewer girls miss out on school due to lack of sanitary products.

The program has partnered with various public figures including media personas Lulu Hassan, Kalekye Mumo, sportsman Julius Yego, entrepreneur Michelle Ntalami, and Annerlisa Mungai to achieve the noble cause.
