Kenyan teen star Nikita Kering bagged two highly coveted AFRIMA awards last night.
Kering famed for her hit song ‘Ex’ won the Best Artiste, Duo, or Group in African R & B, Soul and Best Female Artist in East Africa in a glitzy, star studded event that took place on Sunday 21.11.21 in Lagos, Nigeria.
The 19-year-old beat out some of the continent’s finest including Nigeria’s Wizkid, Tanzanians Zuchu and Nandy as well as fellow countrymen Xenia Mannaseh and Karun.
However, this is not the first time the talented singer has won an AFRIMA award. In 2019 at 17, she won AFRIMA’s ‘Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa’ and ‘Revelation of the African Continent’.

Sauti Sol also won the award for the Best African Group. The group took to social media later in the evening to thank their fans and the AFRIMA team for their award.
The award for the Best in African Rock went to Kenya’s very own Rash Band.
Another Kenyan who made headlines was Shanah Manjeru who became the youngest AFRIMA award winner. She took home the award for Best African Female Artiste in Inspirational Music beating out Ada Ehi (Nigeria), Afrie (Uganda), Eden (Ivory Coast), Kamo Mphela (South Africa), Montess (Cameroon), Nata (Sierra Leone), Noel Nderitu (Kenya), Ruth Asong (Cameroon), Diana Hamilton (Ghana), and Kelly Khumalo (South Africa).
Nigerian Wizkid was one the biggest winner of the night, he won three awards out of the four nominations he got in this year’s AFRIMA; Best Song of the Year for the summer hit song ‘Essence’ and Best African Collaborations and Best Artiste of the Year award.
The show was hosted by Eddie Kadi and South African actress Pearl Thusi. Performances from Zuchu, Patoranking, Chike, Olakira, D’banj among others rocked the night.
