In 2024, Kenyan musicians were discovered by first-time listeners over 95 million times on Spotify, reflecting a growing appetite for the country’s vibrant and diverse sound, from Gengetone and Afro-pop to Benga and contemporary fusion styles. Global listeners spent more than 120,000 hours streaming Kenyan music, creating over 16 million playlists that feature Kenyan artists.

Local consumption has also exploded, growing by 277% over the past three years, while international music exports rose by 94%. Streams for female Kenyan artists outside the country grew by an impressive 98% in 2024 alone.

“These figures prove that Kenyan music is no longer just a regional powerhouse but a significant global force,” said Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Africa.
