Brain cancer warrior Jadudi passes on.
After a long battle with Cancer, Emmanuel Otieno, better known as Jadudi, has passed on. Jadudi died at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu on Monday night 4th of March 2019.
According to a report by Nairobi News, the Africa Cancer Foundation said in a statement “We regret to inform you that Jadudi, a.k.a. Emmanuel Otieno succumbed to brain cancer at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kisumu on the night of March 4, 2019.”
“He was a real Shujaa! May God rest his soul in eternal peace and comfort his family. ACF mourns Jadudi,” it added.
Jadudi who had been ailing since 2012 shot into the limelight in 2015 after Jackson Biko, Business Daily writer, highlighted his battle with a brain tumor that had seen him undergo seven surgeries. Biko’s blog post, “The thing in Jadudi’s head”, saw Kenyans raise Sh6.4 million in less than two days for Jadudi’s medical bill.
The money enabled Jadudi, who had Grade III Ependymoma fly to Chennai, India where he underwent four-hour brain surgery at Apollo Hospital. Months after he underwent successful brain surgery to remove a cancerous growth in his brain, Jadudi, was diagnosed with another brain tumor in 2016.
According to a report by The Star, his death comes a year after Jadudi’s family and the Africa Cancer Foundation (AFC) appealed to the nation that helped raise funds for his trips to India to help clear an Sh1.2 million hospital bill, ferry him home and support his palliative care.
According to AFC Managing Director Dorothy Nyong’o, the brain surgery was unsuccessful. The recurring condition and subsequent infections, as well as travel and special nutrition costs, pushed up the bill.
