NAIROBI, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — Kenya on Friday began operations at seven border posts to enhance international trade.
Lilian Nyawanda, commissioner for customs and border control at the Kenya Revenue Authority, told journalists in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that the new points of entry and exit are located along the borders with Uganda, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.
“The new border posts will deploy advanced technology to enhance regional trade facilitation to significantly reduce cargo clearance times and increase trade volumes,” Nyawanda said during International Customs Day 2025 celebrations in Nairobi.
The newly operational border posts include Konyao and Lomokori/Lokiriama on the Kenya-Uganda border, Olposimoru on the Kenya-Tanzania border, and Illeret/Banya Fort, Todonyang, Suftu, and Rhamu on the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
Nyawanda emphasized that these border posts are expected to streamline the movement of goods across international borders while safeguarding the country against threats posed by organized crime, smuggling, commercial fraud, terrorism, and hazardous goods.
