Sauti Sol have issued a statement from the Kenya Copyright Board addressing their earlier grievances against the Azimio Coalition’s Raila Odinga using their song ‘Extravaganza’ without their consent.
The singing foursome on Monday May 16 accused Azimio of using the song during the unveiling of Martha Karua as Odinga’s presidential running mate behind their back, which they deemed is copyright infringement in their statement, whilst quoting the Copyright Act of Kenya’s Section 35 CAP 170 clause.
In their follow-up post as regards their claims that comes just hours after the band threatened legal redress against the coalition, the band gives fans a look into the Kenya Copyright Board’s statement addressing the group’s complaints. The board says that Azimio needed a synchronized license to legally use the song and not the audio licence for which Odinga paid almost Sh 500, 000 last week.

“The use of sound recording for synchronization in the manner outlined by Sauti Sol without their authority is infringement and thus violates Kenya Copyright law. It is a civil matter that the two parties have the power to resolve amicably with or without compensation,” Reckons the copyright board, enforcing the band’s accusations against Azimio.
