NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 28 – Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has begun using the public limited company (PLC) acronym as part of the Government’s reforms aimed at enhancing governance, accountability, commercial sustainability and operational performance.
In a statement, KAA, which is in charge of Kenya’s airports and airstrips, said the change of name offers a robust legal framework to drive efficiency, innovation and long-term competitiveness.
With the PLC tag, a company can freely trade its shares to the general public, unlike state-owned enterprises whose majority shareholding is protected by the Government.
“Kenya Airports Authority is pleased to announce a major milestone in its corporate development. The organisation has officially transitioned from Kenya Airports Authority to Kenya Airports Authority PLC, incorporated as a public limited company on 3rd June, 2026 under the Companies Act, 2015 (Certificate No. PLC-P6U58MWD),” KAA announced in a statement.
Under the Government Owned Enterprises Act, which was passed into law in December last year, the new law sought to rebrand commercial state corporations such as Kenya Pipeline Company, KenGen, KAA and Kenya Power to PLC.
“This transformation aligns with the Government of Kenya’s State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) reforms aimed at enhancing governance, accountability, commercial sustainability and operational performance,” KAA added.
“Following the repeal of the Kenya Airports Authority Act (Cap. 395) on 5th December, 2025 under the Government Owned Enterprises Act, 2025, this incorporation provides a robust legal framework to drive efficiency, innovation, and long-term competitiveness.”
