….and the Oscar for Don’t Ever Play With My Wife goes to…Will Smith!
The annual Academy Awards went down at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles last night, and boy weren’t we unprepared for all that was bound to unfold! Comedian and actor Chris Rock was one of the presenters of the night, but he may have received a little way more than he bargained for, and in the eyes of all and sundry at that!
During his monologue, Rock took a swipe at Jada Pinkett Smith and her bald hairdo, suggesting that the Red Table Talk host should star in a remake of Walt Disney Studio’s 1997 flick, G.I Jane, owing to her bald haircut. While the general Oscars audience laughed at the supposed joke, Pinkett’s husband and a big winner of the night was not exactly here for the jab. He may have fabricated a little giggle at first, but that as good as shortlived.
What looked like yet another awards night jest from a renowned comedian turned out to be the night’s focal point and outshone every other event that ensued in the night. Smith promptly stood up, walked to the stage, unabashedly smacked Rock, then nonchalantly walked back to his seat like nothing happened. Did it stop there? Not quite. While seated, Smith sternly and albeit loudly let Rock know to keep Pinkett’s name out of his mouth, as the visibly stunned comedian stood, likely pondering his next move (or word!) “Wow! Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me!” Blurted out a bewildered Rock amid a forced laughter.
“Get my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth!” Exclaimed Smith. “That I will!” Responded Rock. A myriad reactions have since stemmed from the spectacle, as you would predict. Celebs and fans alike are losing their collective minds over the Oscars fiasco, and there are no signs of that relenting anytime soon.
