If you grew up in a Kenyan household, you are well cognizant of the fact that popular milking jelly Arimi’s was a bonafide staple.
A shopping list would not be complete without the product, and that remains the case today.

While its manufacturer may have labelled it a milking jelly, Kenyans use it for more than just that. A lot of people swear by it for flawless skin, others to counter chapped lips and dry heels..the works!
When Twitter user, one @thetriggahappy1 decided to post his new designs showcasing Arimi’s as a premium product by giving its characteristic packaging a ‘facelift,’ nothing could have prepared her for the flack that was to follow.
“I did the unthinkable, I decided to rebranded your favorite brand as a slightly premium product. This is a passion project, I hope you like it. If you do check out it the rest of it here,” read the designer’s post, accompanied by his colorful designs. Kenyans came all up in arms at the product, saying it had lost its essence by getting rid of its packaging that consumers have known it for since inception.
So much was the reaction from Arimi’s buffs, that the company had to respond, clearing the air on the misconception that they had rebranded. “We are not rebranding. To all our esteemed customers and users of our products, we’re not rebranding, the circulating brand is just someone’s suggestion. We stick to our initial brands! Otherwise enjoy the greatness of your skincare,” responded the manufacturer in their official Facebook account.
Kenyans who were vocal about their preference for the old look took to Twitter with all kinds of reactions, most utterly hilarious. Here are samples:
