Influencer Brian Mutinda Sued By Wakadinali, Weeks After Nonini Threatened Legal Action Against Him

Gengetone group Wakadinali have sued social media influencer Brian Mutinda.

This comes just weeks after rapper Nonini also threatened Mutinda with a lawsuit. The new lawsuit comes after Mutinda, who works for popular advertising agency, WPP-Scangroup, used their hit song ‘Geri Inengi’ for a Kenya Commercial Bank influencing job.

Taking to their Twitter page on Monday, August 22, Wakadinali wrote: “It is with great sadness that we bring this to the public, our music was been infringed upon by some entities and we tried to resolve it privately but they refused to settle with us,” Started the thread.

The group further attached copies of different legal letters. One of them was of a demand letter dated June 29 where their lawyer demanded that said videos be pulled down and a public apology issued.

Another letter indicates that Squad Digital, a subsidiary of Scangroup, retaliated saying that the group’s music is available on the Instagram stories. “You will find it very hard to justify any liability or quantum, and if necessary, we will defend our position robustly in court,” Read the letter in part.

Wakdinali would later summon a meeting with all parties involved but it bore no success.

Back in July, rapper Nonini threatened to sue Mutinda for copyright infringement after the latter used the former’s hit ‘We Kamu’ in a video advertising a TV screen. Nonini filed a lawsuit four days ago at Milimani Law Courts.

In an interesting twist, artiste Fena Gitu a little over a week ago gave creators quite the treat saying: “Please use my songs on your reels. Secure your bag. Just, credit and tag. Brands, tunaezabonga kando.”
