Over the weekend, one of the biggest TV phenomena went down; the Netflix premiere of the much hyped about Young, Famous and African reality show portraying the lives of renowned names in the African entertainment scene.
The cast of the show include East African infamous ex-couple Diamond Platnumz and Zari Hassan, Nigerian couple 2Face Idibia and Anne Macaulay-Idibia, South African showbiz personalities Nadia Nakai and Khanyi Mbau, among others.Young, Famous and African delves into their flashy, high-rolling lives and gives a glimpse into the mystery of their fame and fortune.
In one of the most popular scenes of the show, the Tanzanian hitmaker is asked what his ages is by Nakai, to which he replies, “I’m 31st,” to the immense laughter and ridicule of social media viewers. The South African songwriter quips: “How old are you? Why do you have to think about it?” Diamond hesitantly responds,“No, I’m not thinking about it. I was just untying my button. I’m 31st.”
His inadequacies in the English language have since elicited a myriad reactions. While some Twitter users feel that he does not have to be proficient in the Queen’s lingo, others strongly feel he humiliated himself and others of his kind on the show and insist he could have stuck to the language he is accustomed with, in this case Swahili.

Viewers are taken aback by the sheer opulence and high-end lifestyles of all the cast members-a major captivating point in the show. Elle Magazine has hailed the show as a dire TV essence that showcases the lavish and flamboyant side of Africa, which is often not represented.
