Embakasi East Legislator Babu Owino has defended himself over Dj Evolve’s medical bills.

Last week, Kenyans on Twitter went ham on the Member of Parliament for not catering to the medical bills of the popular disc jockey whom he shot at a club in Kilimani weeks ago.
According to reports, the vocal politician who was granted bail after a week in jail only paid Kshs 600,000 while the ever-increasing hospital bill for the deejay who is still admitted at the Nairobi Hospital stands at Kshs 7.5 million.
Now, through his lawyer Mr Duncan Okatch of Okatch and Partners Advocates, the MP revealed that he has so far paid Kshs 5 million.
“Our client has up to date paid a total of Sh5 million which principally is channelled towards the treatment of the victim,” a letter written by the law firm reads in part.
The letter further states that the lawmaker has been paying the money directly to the courts as per the orders that were issued before he was released over the DJ’s shooting.
In a ruling delivered on January 27, 2020, Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi granted Owino whose real name is Paul Ongili a Kshs 10 million cash bail and said the money will be used to settle the victim’s hospital bills.
The magistrate ordered that the amount be paid to the court in four instalments and that it would be used to clear all the DJ’s hospital bills at the best medical facilities until he recovers fully.
