Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has officially become a part-owner of San Diego FC (SDFC), a Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion team, through her company, The Leading Vibe.
Her investment, made in collaboration with Pave Investments—an African private investment firm—marks a significant addition to the club’s diverse ownership group.
Expressing her excitement, Tems shared, “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and community. Football unites people in a powerful way, and I’m eager to help build something special in San Diego.”
Tems joins a distinguished group of part-owners, including actress and producer Issa Rae, former Spanish footballer Juan Mata, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and MLB star Manny Machado.
Tems’ venture into sports ownership highlights a growing trend of high-profile figures investing in sports franchises. Notable examples include Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney with Wrexham AFC, LeBron James with Liverpool FC, and Serena Williams with Angel City FC.

In February, she won her second Grammy Award, earning recognition for her song “Love Me JeJe.” Previously, she won a Grammy for her collaboration on Future’s “Wait for U.” Her songwriting talents also earned her an Academy Award nomination for co-writing Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.
