Celebrated Kenyan gospel singer Evelyn Wanjiru and her husband, Agundabweni Akweyu are expecting their first child.
The couple who have been married for a decade announced on Tuesday (12.04.2022) via Instagram that they are finally going to be parents. The long caption was posted alongside a photo showcasing Evelyn’s growing baby bump.
She wrote, “Today, my heart is full of joy and gratitude. As I write this, my eyes are full of tears. I have been waiting for this season for 10 years in my marriage. A blessed womb, God Has fulfilled His promise in our lives”.
The musician rejoiced, breaking into a thanksgiving song titled ‘Asante,’ in which she celebrates the end of a 10-year wait for a child.
“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him,” the singer wrote, quoting a verse from 1 Samuel.
Her celebratory message included a prayer for other couples who had nearly given up on trying to start a family. Wanjiru has previously opened up about her struggles in several interviews, but she thanked her ten-year-husband for being supportive despite the societal pressures that came with the long wait for a child.
“Look at us and see what the Lord has done. Friends and family, I tell you; There’s a distinct difference, anybody can be a father, but it takes a special man to be a DAD. This man right here @agundabweni is a gift from God to me,” Wanjiru wrote, heaping praise on her husband who has stayed by her side.
Wanjiru revealed her baby shower in the music video, which debuted on Tuesday, in which she was surrounded by a slew of her friends.
