Gengetone Group Ethic Release A Socially Conscious Track ‘Masanse’

Gengetone group Ethic and rapper GeeGee 254 have dropped Masanse, a conscious song addressing police brutality.

The two camps address all the recent happenings, from people being profiled for donning dreadlocks, tattoos and looking a certain kind of way to police offers being poor at their job, messages that come at such a pivotal time.

“Masanse msitumade, mtulinde,” goes one of the lines of the song. The video features crowds of people wearing shirts with words ‘End Police Brutality’ christened on them.

Masanse comes in the wake of the murder of the Kianjokoma brothers in Embu that had the country in utter uproar.

This release marks Ethic’s deviation from their usual uptempo Gengetone releases and sees them tap into their activism side, a move that would have had them in good books with the former Kenya Films and Classification Board chairman Ezekiel Mutua.
