Ambitious artiste Gabiro Mtu Necessary has his eyes set on 2022 with new music and other great tidings.
After gaining quite the recognition last year, he plans on reaching even the stratosphere from now henceforth. He lets The Sauce in on what his future looks like.
New Album
His JENESIS EP was a success last year, so what better than put together a bigger body of work? “I have been working on the album for 3 years. There is 5 features on the album, and methinks the highlight of them all will be my collaboration with Jamaica’s Javada. I have already shot three videos off the album. I’m very particular about who I work with so I have stuck with on producer entirely,” He says. As if that is not spectacular enough, he reveals he is already busy working on his sophomore album that he also slates for a 2022 date, adding that the recognition by the Recording Academy he got last year changed his music direction for the better.
Does he plan on relocating to Nairobi from Kisumu? “My current location does not limit me whatsoever. I’m of the opinion that being in Nairobi would give me a comfort of sorts that I’m not exactly looking to have. Living and working in Kisumu inadvertently gets me to rise to the occasion as I have it figured that there are odds that come with the territory. I set out to defy them everyday” Adds the Twak Makende singer.
I want to immerse deep in my humanity, feel all emotions and be remembered for being me. Those are my biggest aspirations.
Dream Collaborations
On which stars he would kill to work with, Gabiro is adamant there is just about zero: “I have none. I’m not one to incline towards collabs and features. Even the few that I have out, I did not go looking for the artistes. It was the reverse. On the flip side, if I have the chemistry with a musician, I do not hesitate working with them on their request.”
Creative Process
“I have a studio in my house. All the material is created there. It is in that studio that I have written records from scratch, with just me and the producer in the studio. My creative process stems from how I feel presently and my own experiences. I write all my music alone, and write for other people when I get the time,” He quips.
Streaming Era Or Non-Streaming Era
“Each era has its perks and downsides. The non-streaming had artistes earn from pure sales. If you sold 500, 000 copies of your record then, it implied that 500, 000 people went to a record store and purchased said record. The same does not apply in the streaming era. Obviously, the streaming era has made it easy for musicians to reach big audiences all at once. We cannot be mad at that,” He concludes.
Gabiro’s debut album drops April 29.
