Former president Mwai Kibaki has passed on at the age of 90.

The news of the former country head’s passing has been announced by president Uhuru Kenyatta. Kibaki was the only surviving former president and served the Republic of Kenya from 2002 to 2013.
President Kenyatta has called for a period of national mourning that will also entail flying flags at half-mast till a state funeral is held for the political icon. Kenyatta announced Kibaki’s passing during a televised state address at State house, Nairobi.
