NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 12 – A former Internal Security Assistant Minister is being held at Luzira Prison in Uganda over alleged gold scamming, smuggling, and forgery of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) documents.
Stephen Kipkiyeny, who was charged on January 10, 2024, could face up to a three-year jail term or a $10,000 fine if found guilty.
According to the court document, Kipiyeny was charged with a falsified URA document pursuant to Section 203(b) of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004 (as amended).
He served as an assistant minister during the late President Mwai Kibaki’s term.
